Why Pilates?

Pilates is a system of exercises developed by Joseph Pilates. His approach was a holistic whole body one.

Joseph Pilates wrote two books “Your Health “ and “Return to Life through Contrology” they give a magnificent insight into the man and his exercise regime and are recommended reading for anyone who is interested in Pilates.

Who can describe Pilates better than the man himself? Joseph Pilates called his exercises “Contrology”

“Contrology is the complete coordination of body, mind, and spirit. Contrology corrects wrong postures, restores physical vitality, invigorates the mind, and elevates the spirit. ….as we mature, we find ourselves living in bodies not always complimentary to our ego. Our muscles are flabby and our vitality extremely lowered, if not vanished. This is but the natural result of not having uniformly developed all the muscles of our spine, trunk, arms, and legs in the course of pursuing our daily labours and office activities.

If you will faithfully perform your Contrology exercises regularly only four times per week for just three months as outlined in Return to Life, you will find your body development approaching the ideal, accompanied by renewed mental vigour and spiritual enhancement. Contrology is designed to give you suppleness, natural grace, and skill that will be unmistakably reflected in the way you walk, in the way you play, and in the way you work. You will develop muscular power with corresponding endurance, the ability to perform arduous duties, to play strenuous games, to walk, run or travel for long distances without undue body fatigue or mental strain. And this is by no means the end.”

Choosing Anne Sexton’s Pilates for teacher trainer was a complete no-brainer for me. I’ve been attending Anne’s classes for years now and I'm still in awe of her dedication and true passion for Pilates. She inspired me to become a teacher myself. The training through ASP was extremely interesting and despite my experience to date of Pilates I was delighted with all the additional information I gathered. Studying the anatomy was fascinating and practicing the teacher role was challenging but very rewarding. Anne broke down each step in very clear and concrete ways that were easy to understand and put in to practice. If you are considering teacher training, I'd strongly recommend you go to ASP. Anne’s support and knowledge is invaluable and you’re sure to have a bit of fun also.

I took a leap of faith and decided to train to be a pilates teacher. I was so nervous but once I found Anne I instantly knew that I had made the right decision, and that I was definitely in safe, knowledgeable hands.
Anne is a fountain of knowledge and her passion for pilates just radiates from her, which translates to her teaching methods and style. Anne is energetic and her enthusiasm for all things pilates is infectious. She is dedicated and caring, and has made me feel comfortable and safe every step of the way.
I have loved every minute of my teacher training so far and cannot wait to perdue it further.
Anne wholeheartedly epitomizes pilates and has become much more than a teacher to me, she has become a mentor and a friend.

I have been interested in health and fitness for most of my adult life, and i wanted to pursue a career in this area. Having previously done reformer pilates and loved the benefits I felt from it I decided that this was the area that I intended to pursue. I started with anatomy training, followed by Mat 1 and 2, then continued with reformer 1 and 2. My experience with Anne Secton Pilates was all extremely positinve. The course is so thorough and Annes expertise about anything to do with pilates is so obvious. Her guidance, support and knowledge is what every person pursuing a career in pilates needs. She goes above and beyond! Can't wait for the next part of my pilates journey

I have had the pleasure of being a client of Anne Sexton’s Pilates for over ten years now. I have followed her from Roundwood to Greystones and now to Kilcoole. When you are lucky enough to find such a talented instructor you have to stay with the best. Anne’s love of Pilates and well-being for our bodies is obvious in her teachings. We would have been lost without our Zoom classes during lockdown for both our physical and mental health. Thank you, Anne and your team for always looking after us. 😘

Due to poor work from home set up my back and pelvis has severely suffered. Anne’s Back Care Classes through Zoom and they have been amazing! Stretching out all the sore spots and relieving the built up pressure. Anne will always check in to see what is hurting that week and tailors classes to help everyone. Always feel better after it!
